Amanda Hensley, LCSW
Amanda Hensley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a therapist at the Center for Mind Health. Amanda received her degree in social work from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Amanda has been in practice for over ten years beginning her career in therapeutic day schools working with young adults with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Her work has always focused on helping people access coping strategies and healthy behaviors to help clients meet their goals in the classroom and beyond. Amanda switched to private practice three years ago and has been extending her reach beyond the school system to young adults and adults to help them make the changes in their lives they need to be successful.
“I’ve always enjoyed learning about other people and listening to people tell me about their lives. I channeled that curiosity into social work because I was passionate about the idea of using that curiosity to help others build better lives. My goal as a therapist is to make clients feel comfortable and supported as we work through building the skills and self-compassion they need to build a fulfilling life.”
Amanda’s clinical expertise is with anxiety, ADHD, emerging adulthood, and parent coaching. In her practice, Amanda uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for ADHD, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and she uses polyvagal theory to source bottom-up treatments for symptoms. Balancing bottom-up (body based) and top-down (cognitive based) interventions, Amanda helps clients achieve their goals and feel more emotionally balanced.
